Here's the standard process for buying a home when you work with Highland Realty. It's not standard for the industry, so if you want fake laughter, uneasy handshakes and a substantial lack of eye contact, we may disappoint you.

  1. Research
  2. Get an Agent
  3. The Buyer-Agency Agreement
  4. Credit Report/Bank Search
  5. The House Search
  6. Signing
1. Research: It's Free
Here's how easy it is to research homes in the Upstate. You walk in our front doors. You sit down at one of our computers (by yourself, if you choose.) You access every listing in the Upstate area. Coffee, anyone?

You read that right. Anyone, anytime can walk in off the street to 19 West Stone Avenue in downtown Greenville and access our computers. We won't peek over your shoulder or ask for your SS#, telephone number or blood type. You can choose to stay and meet an agent or go your merry way.

2. Get An Agent: Honest, Professional Help
We don't hire jerks. How's that for upfront? We hire honest, caring people with an affinity for The Golden Rule. Our agents tend to be young, experienced, semi-hip and very much in love with the Upstate. Oh, by the way, youth and experience can mix.

Our agents don't use big, scary real estate terms that no one understands. They explain everything. Their cell phones are always on. And they usually become very good friends with their customers.

3. The Buyer-Agency Agreement: No Pressure
We believe in a no-pressure environment. Pure and simple. Which is why we won’t force buyer-agency agreements every time someone walks in the door. Sure, in some cases an agreement has to be signed, but we won’t dangle it in front of your face with any scare tactics. A buyer-agency agreement should happen AFTER you’re comfortable, never before.

4. Credit Report/Bank Search: Simple and Easy
Pre-qualification can be confusing. But don't worry, we know financing, and we'll walk you through it and explain every single detail. First off, if you need us to, we'll run a credit report to find out what kind of house best fits your family. Next, we'll discuss what kind of loan makes sense for you and what kind of loan makes you comfortable. Then we'll work with you to find the bank (or banks) that match your criteria.

Highland Realty will not sell you too much house. We stick to your parameters, no matter what.

5. House Search: Go, Agent, Go
Tell your Highland Realty agent the ins and outs of what you want in a home (location, style, color, yard, the whole shebang) then they're off and running. And unlike other real estate companies, we search every listing. Not just our own. This means we're willing to take less money to find the perfect home for you.

To make things easy, we'll print out the MLS listings for you. Matter of fact, feel free to drive around on your own, and when you find a home you like, call us. Plus, when you want to see a home, you want to see a home. We understand. That's why our cell phones are always on.

6. Signing: Dotting I's and Crossing T's
We won't pressure you into signing anything until you're ready. In fact, we suggest you sleep on any big decision. Sound weird? Maybe. But we believe you shouldn't have to rush into anything. This way, you can feel comfortable.

When you're ready to sign, we'll work out the details. So you can expect a painless, pleasant experience. And a house that was meant for you.
